Pevensey Castle is a medieval castle and former Roman fort in the East Sussex village of Pevensey on the outskirts of Eastbourne.
The outer Roman wall is the oldest fortification dating back to the 3rd Century when the fort of Anderitum was built to protect the south coast from Saxon raiders. The castle was built in 1100 by Robert, Count of Mortain (half-brother to William the Conqueror).
