Zuigan-ji

Zuigan-ji (日本語: 瑞巌寺) is a tourist attraction, one of the Buddhist temples in Matsusima, Japan. It is located: 20 km from Schiogama, 62 km from Sendai, 570 km from Niigata.

臨済宗妙心寺派の寺院であり山号は青竜山、詳名は松島青龍山瑞巌円福禅寺。承和5年 (838年) 天台宗の円仁の創建で延福寺と称したが、鎌倉時代に臨済宗となり円福寺と改めた。のち伊達政宗が再興し、瑞巌円福寺とした。本堂、御成玄関、庫裡、回廊は国宝、御成門、中門、太鼓塀は重要文化財に指定。

【国宝】指定名称は「瑞巌寺本堂」...慶長九年伊達政宗が延福寺を瑞巖寺と改め自からその再興を行った時の方丈で慶長十四年三月の上棟。 細部絵様及び欄間、扉の彫刻などは桃山建築の特色をよく現している。正面39.0m、奥行き25.2m 入母屋造・平屋・本瓦葺。内部は禅宗方丈様式に武家邸宅の書院を加えた10室間取で、東・南・西三方に上縁・下縁を巡らしています。

現在、本堂は平成の大修理中のため御本尊である仙台藩祖正宗、2代藩主忠宗の大位牌、三代開山木像は大書院にて公開しています。
